Patchen Community Square hands you paint, paper, and a pile of produce, and you spend the morning finding out what a cross-sectioned pepper does to a sheet of paper. It is a three-hour drop-in window inside a Bed-Stuy community garden, free, with supplies and guidance laid on for every age and skill level. If your kid needs somewhere to make a mess that is not your kitchen table, this is the answer.
What to expect
Walk into the garden at any point in the window and someone will set you up with supplies and a prompt; there is no class to join and no sign-in sheet to catch. Around the artmaking there is a garden to look at, a little free library to raid, and neighbors to meet. Expect small kids and adults working side by side at the same table.
