Boo Bash is the kind of Halloween afternoon that has quietly disappeared from most of the city: a council-backed party in a neighborhood park with carnival games, craft tables and face painting, and nothing to buy at the gate. St. James Park sits right by Fordham Road, so it works as a stop rather than an expedition. If your children want to wear the costume more than once before the 31st, this is the earliest good excuse in the Bronx.
What to expect
You walk into the park and find activity tables set up across the green, with games and crafts running continuously rather than on a schedule. Costumes are welcome and plenty of families turn up in them. Everything is outdoors and drop-in for the full four hours.
