Conference House Park occupies the southernmost land in New York State, with a 17th-century stone manor house, woods and a shoreline looking across Raritan Bay to New Jersey. Doing a mat class there is about as far from a Manhattan studio as the city gets - open water, almost no one around and a genuine sunrise over the bay. Free, drop-in and worth the trip if you have never been to the bottom of Staten Island.

What to expect

Expect an instructor-led mat session on the lawn near the water, a small local group, and the bay and the beach path immediately alongside. The historic Conference House and its gardens are within the same park if you want to look around afterwards. Bring your own mat, water and a layer for the shoreline breeze.
