Dance Theatre of Harlem is the company Arthur Mitchell built in a Harlem garage in 1969 and turned into one of America's defining neoclassical ballet troupes. Seeing it at Lehman Center means seeing world-class ballet in a 2,300-seat Bronx hall rather than a midtown house, at Bronx prices and with a Bronx audience. If you have only seen ballet from the back of a Lincoln Center balcony, this is a much closer, warmer room.
