This is the anniversary-year exhibition that goes at the actual argument rather than the pageantry, using The New York Historical's own documents and objects to test the founding claims against what followed. What to expect
Documents, prints, artifacts and works of art hung with substantial interpretive text, arranged thematically rather than as a chronological march through the Revolution. It works best read slowly and combined with the museum's other current exhibitions, which are covered by the same entry. About forty-five minutes on its own, closer to two hours for the building.
