Redfern is the far eastern end of the Rockaway peninsula, past where most visitors ever get, and its playground is the centre of the neighbourhood's summer. Deuce Day is the kind of hyperlocal event that never makes a citywide listing but pulls the whole surrounding development out for an afternoon. Free, in a public playground, and the beach is a short walk south.

What to expect

Expect a playground-based gathering with amplified music, tables and activities for children, and a crowd made almost entirely of the surrounding blocks. Playground equipment stays open throughout. Nothing is ticketed and people drift in and out across the afternoon.
