Washington Market Park is named for the great wholesale produce market that fed New York from this exact patch of Tribeca until the 1960s, which makes a farmers market on the same ground a nice piece of continuity. Today it is a neighborhood park with a Victorian gazebo, a playground and the downtown family crowd, and the Greenmarket brings regional farms directly onto it. Come for the produce, stay because the park is one of the pleasantest small green spaces below Canal.
