Sunset Park's hilltop is one of the few places in Brooklyn where the Manhattan skyline, the harbor and the Verrazzano line up at once, and It's My Park is the day the neighborhood turns out to look after it. The Parent-Child Relationship Association runs this session, so it is family-friendly tidying rather than heavy landscaping. If you want civic usefulness with a skyline as the payoff, this is the easiest version of it.
What to expect
Check in at the Sunset Park Recreation Center, collect gloves and bags, and work a stretch of the park alongside neighbors and the organizing group. It is light work — litter, tidying, general beautification — over a couple of hours, and the hilltop view is a short walk from wherever they put you.
Good to know
- D, N or R to 36th Street, or the R to 45th Street, then walk uphill to the Recreation Center.
