Commercial galleries rarely hand a room to six people nobody has bought yet, and the upstairs at Uffner & Liu is exactly that — a full presentation of RISD painting graduates in a gallery that also has Nicole Eisenman and Dana Schutz downstairs. That juxtaposition is the whole reason to climb the stairs: the same building, two career stages, no filter between them. Free, ten minutes, and it comes down at the end of next week.
What to expect
A smaller upper-floor room above the main gallery, hung with paintings by six recent graduates at varied scales. It reads as a proper exhibition rather than a thesis display. Go through the main gallery first and ask the front desk to point you upstairs.
