The Ice Cream Social is NYCRUNS' end-of-summer half marathon and it is exactly as advertised: just under four loops of Prospect Park, 3.25 trips up the park's long hill, and ice cream served at the finish. The loop format means friends can post up in one spot and see you four times over, and that last left onto Center Drive hands you a downhill finish. If you are building toward a fall marathon, this is the tune-up with the best reward.
What to expect
The course is a repeating loop of the park drive, so you learn every rise by the second lap and can pace off the field around you. Expect a mid-size, friendly race rather than a mass-participation crush, with support on the loop and a final descent down Center Drive to the line. Ice cream is waiting when you stop running.
Good to know
- Registration runs through NYCRUNS and is required in advance; the Prospect Park listing does not publish the entry fee.
- Check NYCRUNS for your wave assignment and gear-check location before you travel.
- The 2 and 3 to Grand Army Plaza and the F and G to 15th Street–Prospect Park both drop you at a park entrance.
- The loop course makes spectating easy — pick one spot and you will see the field pass repeatedly.
- The park drive is car-free but stays open, so expect cyclists and dog walkers sharing the road.
- Ice cream at the finish is the theme, so plan on a slower exit than a normal race.

Common questions
Is it free?
No. It is a registered race through NYCRUNS and prices vary — check the NYCRUNS entry page for the current fee and whether spots remain.
What is the course like?
Just under four full loops of Prospect Park, which works out to 3.25 climbs of the park's hill, then a final left turn and a sprint down Center Drive to the finish.
Can I come just to watch?
Yes, and the loop course makes it easy: stand anywhere on the park drive and the field will pass you three or four times.
