Prince Street's quietest block runs along the old brick wall of St. Patrick's Old Cathedral, and the market that sets up against it is the antidote to the Soho retail grind: about a dozen artisans selling hand-sewn silk dresses, Moroccan fashion, Italian-leather wallets, handmade jewelry and small art, much of it made by the person taking your money. It runs Friday through Sunday through the season. If you want a gift nobody else will have, this beats every store within ten blocks.

What to expect

Stalls line one side of Prince Street against the cathedral wall, with vendors including Awura, Lily & Chloe, Daniela Studio, Coko, Rebel Designs, Astrid Schumacher Designs and Jill Sunglasses. Expect hand-sewn clothing, jewelry, leather goods, sunglasses and decorative housewares, much of it exclusive to the market. It stays walkable even at peak weekend hours.
