A Grammy-nominated New Orleans second-line band, a Brooklyn soul-instrumental group and an all-female brass ensemble on one Midtown lawn, with the skyline going gold behind them. This is Bryant Park's first Brass Festival and it lands on the Friday of Labor Day weekend, with free blankets, chairs and food vendors on site. If you want one free, no-ticket, big-sound night to open the long weekend, take this one.

What to expect

Arrive to a lawn already spread with blankets and folding chairs facing the stage. New Breed Brass Band blends traditional New Orleans brass with R&B and pop, Aberdeen plays melody-driven instrumentals, and Brass Queens spotlight women in the brass tradition. Park food vendors are open, and you are welcome to bring your own picnic.

Common questions

Do I need a ticket?

No. Picnic Performances are free and untickted. Turn up, find a patch of lawn and sit down.

How early should I get there?

Can I bring food and drink?

Yes, outside picnics are welcome. There are also food vendors in the park if you would rather buy on site.
