Far Rockaway's eastern blocks sit within a few minutes of the Atlantic and rarely get the summer programming that the western beaches do, which makes a full-afternoon street event on Beach 24th genuinely worth turning out for. The block closes off Seagirt Avenue and runs into the evening. If you're on the peninsula, this is the neighborhood coming out on its own street rather than heading west to the surf beaches.
What to expect
A barricaded block with tables, food, music and activities for children, organized by residents and community groups. Expect the afternoon to build steadily and continue into the evening. The beach and boardwalk are a short walk south if you want to combine it with sand.
