Bartel-Pritchard Square sits at the southwest corner of Prospect Park, and on Sundays it fills with growers' tables: vegetables and fruit at peak August ripeness, plants and cut flowers, baked goods, and fish off the boat. It is a neighborhood market rather than a destination one, which is the appeal — you can shop it in twenty minutes and be inside the park with a peach. If you are heading to Prospect Park anyway, come through this gate.

What to expect

A compact ring of farm stands around the plaza, with tote-carrying regulars circulating between produce, flowers and the fish table. Bring a bag and some cash; GrowNYC's nutrition benefit programs are accepted here. It is easy to browse in a single loop, then walk straight into Prospect Park through the adjacent entrance.

Good to know

  • The F and G to 15th Street–Prospect Park puts you at the square; the B67 and B69 stop nearby.
  • Bring your own tote or cart — vendors are not set up for a big-bag habit.
  • Nutrition benefit programs including SNAP/EBT are accepted at GrowNYC markets; grownyc.org has the current list.
  • Come early in the market's run for the best produce, since stands thin out as it goes on.
  • The plaza is flat and paved, so strollers and wheelchairs move easily.
  • Greenmarkets generally run rain or shine — farmers turn up in weather.
