Sixteen musicians squeeze onto a stage built for a trio, which means the brass is three feet from the front tables and the room does the mixing for you. What to expect
A cramped, wedge-shaped basement with famously good acoustics and a strict no-talking, phones-silenced policy once the music starts. The band fills the stage wall to wall — five saxophones, four trumpets, four trombones and rhythm — so the volume in a 120-seat room is a physical event. Seating is tight and communal; you will be shoulder to shoulder with strangers.
