A NY Latino Collective is pulling several things into one afternoon at Wolfe's Pond Park: a wellness walk, clean-water and water-security education, cultural storytelling and youth STEM programming, run with college and community partners. It is free and it runs five hours, so you can drop in for one piece of it. If you want a Staten Island that is neither the ferry terminal nor Snug Harbor, this is the reason to head south.

What to expect

Programming spreads across Wolfe's Pond Park over five hours, with the wellness walk, education stations and cultural presentations at different points. Partner organisations set up alongside, and families move between activities rather than sitting through one programme. It is free and drop-in.

Good to know

  • Wolfe's Pond Park is at 420 Cornelia Avenue; the Staten Island Railway's Prince's Bay stop is the nearest station.
  • Everything is free and drop-in; no ticket is required.
  • Wear shoes you can walk a shoreline in, since parts of the park are sand and dirt path.
  • Bring water and sun protection; shade is patchy near the shore.
  • It is built for families, with youth STEM activities in the mix.
  • Check the organizer's page the morning of if the weather looks rough.
