Hunter's Point South Park has the single best skyline view in New York — the whole Midtown wall standing straight up across the East River, with the Empire State and Chrysler Buildings dead center — and doing free yoga on its lawn in the morning is close to unfair. Sessions are all-levels and cost nothing, so you can try it once without commitment. If you have been meaning to see why everyone photographs Long Island City, come at 9 a.m. with a mat.

What to expect

An instructor leads an all-levels session on the park's lawn, with breath work, standing sequences and a closing rest facing the water. Bring a mat or towel. Expect a neighborhood crowd, runners passing on the promenade and the skyline doing most of the work.

Good to know

  • Take the 7 to Vernon Blvd–Jackson Av or the NYC Ferry to Hunters Point South
  • Free and open to all levels; no registration required
  • Bring your own mat or towel and water
  • Morning sessions get the best light and the calmest waterfront
  • The park lawn is exposed — hats and sunscreen help
  • Gantry Plaza State Park and LIC's cafes are a short walk north
