Forest Hills Stadium is the strangest great venue in New York — a 1923 horseshoe built for the US Open, tucked inside a Tudor-revival neighborhood in Queens, where the Beatles and Hendrix played and where the sound still carries over the treetops. Zac Brown Band is what it was rebuilt for: eight players, three-part harmony, a set that swings from country radio into Southern rock jams. Grace Potter opens with the blues-rock belt that made her a festival fixture, so get there for the first set.
What to expect
The bowl is open to the sky with reserved seating in the stands and a general-admission floor in front of the stage. Concessions run along the concourse behind the seating, and the walk in from the LIRR station takes you through the Forest Hills Gardens streets. Zac Brown Band sets typically stretch past two hours with extended jams and a covers segment.
