Twenty-eight Harlem artists hang textile work, assemblage, sculpture and photography outdoors in Marcus Garvey Park while the Charlie Parker Jazz Festival plays a few yards away - curated by Saundra Heath, with the artists standing next to their own pieces. Elan Cadiz runs a drop-in self-portrait workshop that needs no art experience at all. If you want to meet the neighborhood rather than just watch a stage, wander over here between sets.
What to expect
Work mounted on fencing and panels along the park paths rather than in a gallery, so you browse on foot with the festival audible behind you. Artists are present and happy to talk. The self-portrait workshop runs as a drop-in table with materials supplied - sit down, make something, take it home.
