Soundview Park sits where the Bronx River finally empties into the East River — a large, under-visited waterfront park with restored salt marsh, ballfields and an amphitheater, reclaimed over decades from what was once a landfill. Combining a field day for kids with a resource fair for adults means the whole family gets something out of the same free afternoon. If you're in Soundview or Clason Point and want a day out that doesn't cost anything, this is it.

What to expect

Expect field games and races for children across the park's open ground, alongside a row of tables from community organizations, health providers and city agencies offering information and referrals. Kids can move between activities while adults work the tables. Bring water, sun protection and a bag for whatever printed material you pick up.

Good to know

  • 6 train to Elder Avenue or Whitlock Avenue, then a bus or a walk south to the park
  • Free and open to all, with no registration
  • Bring water and sun protection — the fields are open with little shade
  • Bring a tote for resource materials and giveaways
  • The park's waterfront paths and marsh restoration are worth a walk
  • Outdoor event, so heavy rain can cancel it
