The Great Hill is the flat, tree-ringed plateau at Central Park's north end - a genuine lawn with room for hundreds and a fraction of the foot traffic of Sheep Meadow. FlowAroundNYC uses it for an outdoor flow in the golden hour, which is when the oval's canopy of elms turns the whole space amber. Free, outdoors and far enough uptown that you get space to actually extend your arms.

What to expect

Expect mats laid out across the oval, an instructor leading a flow-style sequence from the front, and the surrounding paths busy with runners and dog walkers. The lawn is broad and level, so latecomers can slot in at the back. Bring your own mat, water and something to change into afterwards.

Good to know

  • The Great Hill is at Central Park's northwest corner; the B/C to 103rd Street or the 2/3 to Central Park North-110th Street are closest.
  • Bring your own mat or a thick towel — none are provided.
  • Free and drop-in with no booking.
  • Suitable for mixed levels; flow classes scale to whoever shows up.
  • Bring water and bug spray for an evening on a wooded lawn.
  • Paved paths lead to the oval, though the approach from the west is uphill.
