The International Puppet Fringe Festival is the Lower East Side's most joyfully weird cultural export — a festival built by Loisaida's Puerto Rican cultural institutions that brings puppet companies from across the world into the Clemente and out onto Suffolk Street. The closing celebration is the street-facing finale: giant puppets, music and an audience of neighborhood kids and international artists in the same block. What to expect
The block outside the Clemente becomes the stage, with large-scale puppets, performers and music filling the street rather than a formal seating arrangement. It is free and family-facing, and the crowd is a mix of festival artists and Lower East Side neighbors. Expect it to be loud, bright and very easy to photograph.
