Mercury Lounge's back room holds about 250 people and has been the first real New York stage for an absurd share of bands who went on to sell out arenas — the Strokes played here before anyone knew the name. The Porch Couch Series books in that spirit: unfamiliar names, low ticket price, early start. A 5pm Sunday show also means you're out with the whole evening ahead of you, which is the most underrated format in live music.
What to expect
A narrow bar in front and a small dark performance room behind it, with a low stage and sightlines that stay close from anywhere in the room. Expect several short sets across the bill rather than one long headliner slot. The early start means you'll be back out on Houston Street well before dark.

- The F to Second Avenue is a one-minute walk; the J and Z to Essex Street is close too
- The back room is small and standing-only, so getting near the stage is easy if you arrive on time
- Early Sunday sets end with plenty of evening left for dinner nearby

- Sound in this room is unusually good for its size — it's worth standing centre
