Glow Where You Go! at the Children's Museum of Manhattan

CMOM's month of sun-themed making: foil and cellophane collages that bounce light, pipe-cleaner sunbursts and cyanotype prints in the Makerspace.

The Children's Museum of Manhattan builds its whole summer program around light, and Glow Where You Go! turns that into rotating stations you drop into rather than book. In the first-floor Makerspace, kids five and up layer foil, cellophane and shiny scraps into sun collages built to bounce light, while the third-floor studio runs a threading project where under-fives build rays around a paper-plate sun.

What to expect

Two studio spaces run in parallel: the first-floor Makerspace for kids five and up, and the third-floor PlayWorks area for under-fives, each with its own sun-themed project that changes through the month. Educators staff the tables and reset materials between families, so you can drop in without a slot. The museum's permanent floors, including the water and city-themed exhibits, stay open the whole time.

Good to know

  • Everything is included with museum admission; there's no separate program ticket.
  • Makerspace projects target ages five and up, PlayWorks projects ages four and under.
  • The 1 train to 79th Street and the B and C to 81st Street are both close.
  • Timed entry is worth booking, since CMOM fills up in summer.
  • Projects rotate weekly, so a return visit later in the month is a different craft.
  • It's entirely indoors, which makes it a dependable heat-wave or rain plan.
