Grand Central is the building the modern preservation movement was built to save, and MAS is the organisation that saved it — the Supreme Court case that came out of that fight is why American cities can protect landmarks at all. A docent from that organisation walking you through the concourse is a different proposition from reading the plaque. At $25 it is among the cheapest guided architecture in the city.
What to expect
Indoors, largely on the level, inside a working transit terminal — expect crowds around the tour. Roughly an hour to ninety minutes at docent pace.
