It's the chorale's season opener and the start of Grant Gershon's 25th year as its artistic director. The chorale calls it a double bill with more than 150 singers and players in Walt Disney Concert Hall. Brahms wrote his Requiem to comfort the living rather than to mourn the dead, and a big chorus in Disney Hall is the right place to hear it.
What to expect
First comes Bruckner's Te Deum, a short, powerful choral-orchestral work, and then Brahms' Requiem, which runs a little over an hour. Gershon conducts, with a soprano, mezzo-soprano, tenor and bass as soloists. Alan Chapman of KUSC and Gershon give a Listen Up! talk before the concert.
