Almost every comedy room in this city is a windowless basement, which makes an open-air bill genuinely rare and genuinely different — the timing changes, the crowd noise changes, and the comics adjust. The Stand puts Torey Cole, Chris Riggins, Oscar Aydin, Tom McGuire, Salma Hindy and Derek Drescher on its patio a block off Union Square, and this room only exists while summer does. If you want stand-up without the low ceiling, take the patio over the main room.
What to expect
Outdoor seating with table service, six comics under one host, and the ambient sound of East 16th Street as an uninvited seventh performer. Sets run shorter and looser than in the indoor main room, and the whole bill moves quickly. The patio empties into the club afterward, so you can carry on inside if the later shows appeal.
