Rebirth Brass Band has been the beating heart of New Orleans street music for four decades — a Grammy on the shelf, a Maple Leaf Bar residency of legend, and a horn section that turns any lawn into a second line. Here they play free on a grass slope at the very tip of Manhattan, sun setting over the harbor behind them. It's the rare free show where the view and the band are equally worth the trip.

What to expect

A DJ opens as picnic blankets cover the Wagner Park lawn, then Rebirth plays a high-energy set as dusk settles over the Statue of Liberty. Expect dancing near the stage, families toward the back, and the Battery Park City esplanade steps away for a post-show harbor walk.
