Joe Pytka's live-action-meets-Looney-Tunes oddity turns 30, and Fort Greene Park's central lawn is the right room for it: hundreds of people on blankets, Bugs Bunny forty feet tall, the Brooklyn skyline behind the screen. Rooftop Films adds pre-movie entertainment, so the hours before sundown are half the event. Take a blanket and get there while the light is still good.
What to expect
The lawn opens two and a half hours before the film so people can spread out, picnic and catch the pre-movie programming. The screen goes up near the Washington Park and DeKalb Avenue entrance, and the projection starts shortly after sundown once it's properly dark. Bring layers — the lawn cools fast once the sun is gone.
Good to know
- Enter at Washington Park and DeKalb Avenue for the central lawn; the C to Lafayette Ave or G to Fulton St both work
- Free with RSVP through Eventbrite, though walk-ups are generally accommodated
- Bring a blanket and low chairs — the lawn fills in from the front once the sun drops
- Rated PG, so it genuinely suits kids as well as nostalgia-driven adults
- Glass bottles and alcohol are prohibited in the park
- Heavy rain cancels; check the Fort Greene Park Conservancy social channels before heading over

What time does the movie actually start?

Can I bring food?
Yes — picnicking on the lawn before the film is part of the format. Glass bottles and alcohol are not permitted.
