Brooklyn Bridge Park is not a natural shoreline — it was engineered on and around the piers of a working cargo waterfront, with salt marsh, riprap and berms doing storm-surge work. This walk covers that from the Pier 1 entrance down to Pier 3, sixty to ninety minutes on ecology, design and how a park got built on industrial infrastructure. If you have walked this promenade a hundred times without knowing what you were looking at, register.
What to expect
Meet at the Pier 1 entrance and head south with a guide at an easy pace, stopping along the promenade and the lawns. Expect talk about what these piers used to move, how the plantings and shoreline were designed to take a storm, and what it took to assemble the park. It finishes near Pier 3.
Good to know
- The A and C to High Street or the 2 and 3 to Clark Street both walk down to Pier 1.

- It runs 60 to 90 minutes on flat, paved paths and is manageable with a stroller.
- There is almost no shade on the promenade, so bring water and sunscreen.
- The walk is subject to change for weather; confirm before heading out.
- Great for first-time visitors and design nerds, less so for restless young kids.
