Bella Abzug Park is the strip of lawn and plane trees threading through Hudson Yards, and a free Saturday yoga class there gives you the city's most vertical backdrop — glass towers on three sides, the Vessel and the High Line a block away. It is open to all levels and costs nothing, which makes it a rare unpaid thing to do in that neighborhood. If you work or live on the far West Side, this is the easiest way to start a weekend.

What to expect

An instructor leads an all-levels session on the park lawn, from breath work and warm-up through standing sequences to a closing rest. Bring your own mat. Expect a mix of neighborhood residents, commuters and visitors, with the class running about an hour.

Good to know

  • Take the 7 to 34th St–Hudson Yards, or the A/C/E to 34th St–Penn Station and walk west
  • Free and open to all levels; no registration
  • Bring your own mat or towel and water
  • The park is exposed — hats and sunscreen help on bright mornings
  • Great for beginners; instructors offer modifications
  • The High Line's northern entrance and Hudson Yards food are steps away
