Wave Hill's Family Art Project is the most reliably good drop-in kids' program in the Bronx, and this edition asks children to imagine the creature that watches over a garden and then build it in three dimensions. There's no registration, so you can arrive whenever the morning allows, make a sculpture, then wander twenty-eight acres of gardens with the Palisades across the Hudson. A Gund Theater storytime breaks up the session.
What to expect
Head to the art studio area, where materials are laid out and educators walk families through building a sculptural garden guardian. It's drop-in, so ten minutes is as valid as the full session. Partway through, an all-ages storytime runs in the Gund Theater, and the gardens, greenhouses and river overlooks are yours for the rest of the visit.
