Wave Hill is a public garden and cultural center on a 28-acre site in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, at 4900 Independence Avenue, about 12 miles from midtown Manhattan. The grounds are open Tuesday through Sunday, 10AM to 5:30PM, last admission 30 minutes before closing; in Winter Hours the grounds close at 4:30. Admission is $10 for adults, $6 for students and seniors 65+, $4 for children 6+, and free all day Thursdays. Take Metro-North's Hudson Line to Riverdale and walk 15 minutes uphill, or ride the free shuttle that runs Thursdays through Sundays from Riverdale Station, the #1 train at West 242nd Street and the offsite lots. A weekend visit is a slow loop of the gardens, the Conservatory and the Pergola, lunch at the Cafe, and a picnic in one of two designated areas.
