BAM — the Brooklyn Academy of Music — programmes theatre, dance, opera, music and repertory cinema across four Fort Greene venues, and its fall centrepiece is the Next Wave festival. The 2026 edition foregrounds artists from Africa and the African diaspora, and includes a 50th-anniversary staging of Philip Glass's Einstein on the Beach.

Four venues, four different nights out
BAM is not one room. The Howard Gilman Opera House is the grand proscenium house where opera and large-scale dance land. The Harvey Theater, a restored 1904 playhouse left deliberately weathered, hosts the theatre programme and feels nothing like the Opera House. BAM Fisher is a small flexible space for new and experimental work. BAM Rose Cinemas runs film year-round. Check which building your ticket names — they are a few minutes' walk apart, not the same address.
Getting there
The Atlantic Avenue–Barclays Center hub puts nine subway lines and the LIRR within a five-minute walk of the Opera House, which makes BAM one of the easiest large venues in the city to reach from anywhere. The Harvey Theater is a further two blocks up Fulton Street. Evening performances let out into a well-served transit node, so a late curtain is not the problem it can be at other venues.

BAM's fall festival of contemporary performance — theatre, dance and music from artists working at the edge of their forms. The 2026 edition centres artists from Africa and the African diaspora.
Which BAM venue is my show in?
BAM runs four: the Howard Gilman Opera House, the BAM Harvey Theater, BAM Fisher and BAM Rose Cinemas. They are a short walk apart in Fort Greene, so check the building named on your ticket.
How do I get to BAM?
Atlantic Avenue–Barclays Center is five minutes' walk from the Opera House and is served by nine subway lines plus the LIRR. The Harvey Theater is two blocks further along Fulton Street.
Does BAM show films?
Yes — BAM Rose Cinemas runs first-run and repertory programming year-round, separately from the stage season.
