The 29th Life Time Chicago Half Marathon starts and finishes in Jackson Park, near the golden Statue of the Republic. The course runs on Lake Shore Drive with Lake Michigan and skyline views, and passes historic South Side neighborhoods. The half is sold out, but the 5K is still open, and cheering near the start on Cornell Drive is a big South Side morning.
What to expect
Lake Shore Drive closes between 31st and 67th Streets from 6 a.m. The 5K starts at 7 a.m. and the half marathon at 7:15 a.m. on E. Hayes Drive. A finish festival with live music and food opens at 7:30 a.m. in Jackson Park, and the Kids Run starts at 10 a.m.
Good to know
- The half marathon and Kids Run are sold out; charity partners still have entries, and there is a waitlist.
- Packet pickup is at Navy Pier's Festival Hall B on Friday 1–7 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.–5 p.m.
- Lake Shore Drive closes between 31st and 67th Streets on race morning, and the course and finish line close at 11:45 a.m.
- Spectators can gather near the start line on S. Cornell Dr. just north of E. Hayes Dr.; E. 47th St. is another viewing spot.
- Reserved shuttles run from the Belmont L station and Millennium Park.
