Free open-air folk dancing by the King Jagiello statue in Central Park — global steps, live spirit, all levels welcome.

For decades, the Central Park International Folkdancers have brought the dances of the world to the grass beside the King Jagiello statue — Balkan, Israeli, Greek and more — in a free, joyful circle open to anyone who wants to join. No partner or experience is needed; longtime dancers happily teach the steps as music drifts across one of the park's prettiest corners near Turtle Pond. It's a warm, only-in-New-York scene that turns a walk in the park into an impromptu global celebration.

What to expect

Expect a circle of dancers of all ages near the King Jagiello monument, with international music and steps demonstrated for newcomers. The atmosphere is welcoming and participatory. Wear comfortable shoes, bring water, and don't be shy about jumping in.
