Two men who had nothing in common except being gay and dying of AIDS, played by a third man who was dying of it while the cameras rolled — Ron Vawter's double performance is one of the fiercest things the 1990s downtown scene produced, and Godmilow filmed it whole. Anthology is running a 16mm print as the centrepiece of its weekend memorial to Godmilow, who died last autumn. It does not turn up often, and rarely on film.
What to expect
An 88-minute 16mm print in Anthology's East Village theatres, screening Saturday at 8:00pm. It is the Saturday anchor of a three-day Godmilow programme that also includes WHAT GODMILOW TAUGHT with filmmaker Mireia Sallarès in person on Friday and a five-hour documentary on Sunday. The room is small, unfussy and cash-cheap by New York standards.
