Halloween in NYC
The Village Halloween Parade steps off on Saturday October 31, 2026 at 7pm, and it is the rare New York spectacle with no ticket and no audition: anyone in costume can join the march itself. Marching beats watching
The Village Halloween Parade is unusual among big-city parades: the public is the parade. Anyone in costume can join the line of march, with no ticket, no application and no vetting — you queue at the marchers' entry point in costume and walk. Watching from the barricades on Sixth Avenue means standing several deep for hours; marching means you are in it, and it is free either way. If you want the barricade view instead, the further north you go along the route the thinner the crowd gets.
A Saturday Halloween changes the weekend
October 31 falls on a Saturday in 2026, which pulls the whole city's programming into one weekend rather than spreading it across a weeknight and the nearest Saturday. Expect the parade on the Saturday night itself, neighbourhood and park events during Saturday daytime, and the club and party calendar running both Friday and Saturday.
