SculptureCenter's commissioning program is the reason artists take this building seriously: work is made for the space, including its raw lower level, rather than shipped in. Three commissions opening at once is unusual, and Erek's sonic pieces in particular depend on the room they are installed in, so the opening afternoon is the version with the artists' crowd in it. Admission is free every day, not just at the reception.
What to expect
A converted trolley repair shop on a quiet Long Island City side street, with galleries upstairs and a low, vaulted basement level that artists build into. Expect an art-world crowd for the reception rather than a formal program, and three distinct installations to walk between, including sound works that need you to stand still in the room.

How long are the shows up?
Aziz Hazara: Coming Home, Cevdet Erek: Americas and Yining Fei: Feral Sediment all run September 19 through December 28, 2026. Regular hours are Thursday to Monday, 12pm to 6pm.
How do I get there?
SculptureCenter is at 44-19 Purves Street in Long Island City. Take the E, F, G or 7 to Court Square, walk two to three blocks along Jackson Avenue and turn onto Purves Street.
