The Biennial is the argument American artists have with each other every two years, and this edition runs 56 artists across interspecies kinship, infrastructure and precarious ecology. Floor 1 comes down September 7, so this is the last chance to see the show's full remaining shape rather than one surviving floor. If you want something to argue about afterwards, this is it.
What to expect
Sculpture, painting, video installation, photography and performance spread across two remaining floors, plus a commissioned billboard visible from Gansevoort Street and site-specific work on the outdoor terrace. The terrace views over the High Line and the Hudson are half the reason people linger. Advance tickets are recommended.
Good to know
- Take the A, C, E or L to 14th Street-Eighth Avenue and walk west toward Gansevoort Street
- The outdoor terraces are the best part on a clear day, so check the forecast before you pick your slot
- Look up at the billboard across Gansevoort Street before you go in; it is part of the show
- The building is fully accessible with elevators to every gallery floor
- Good for a group with mixed tastes; there is enough range that everyone finds something to hate
- Pair it with a High Line walk, which begins directly outside the museum

Is the whole Biennial still up?
No. Floor 5 closed August 23 and Floor 1 closes September 7. Floor 6 stays open through October 12.
