Park Slope's 16th Street closes between Seventh and Eighth Avenues for a full-day block party on.

The blocks of Park Slope between Seventh and Eighth Avenues are the postcard version of brownstone Brooklyn - limestone stoops, a full tree canopy and a street width that makes closing it feel like acquiring a garden. A 16th Street block party there runs most of the day, which in Slope terms means bouncy castle in the morning and folding chairs and wine by six. Free and open to anyone walking past.

What to expect

Expect barricades at both avenues, tables and grills along the kerb, inflatables and games for children in the middle of the road, and a shaded street thanks to the mature canopy. The scale is one block, so it is neighbourly rather than crowded. Seventh Avenue's shops and cafes are steps away.
