Icahn Stadium has the track where Usain Bolt set a world record in 2008, and community 5Ks there let ordinary runners finish on that surface. Randall's Island itself is flat, car-free and ringed by waterfront paths with views to Manhattan, the Bronx and Queens across three rivers. Twenty-one editions in, this run-walk has the organization and the local field to make it a good first 5K or an easy tune-up. Walkers are genuinely welcome, not tolerated.
What to expect
A morning start at Icahn Stadium with bib pickup on site, then a flat 5K on the island's paths and track before finishing back at the stadium. Expect water stations, a mixed field of club runners, families and walkers, and post-race gathering in the stadium area with the Manhattan skyline across the water.
