In January 2021 Frederique Q.R. Zacharia went looking for a typewriter in Hudson Valley thrift stores and came home with two, which turned into years of typing for pattern rather than meaning. This is the first time her typewritten compositions, sewn pages and hand-stamped quilts have hung together, and the accumulation is the argument. Free in DUMBO and down at the end of the month.
What to expect
Grids of typed marks, pages stitched into larger fields and stamped fabric works that reward standing close enough to see where the machine slipped. The three bodies of work are hung to be read against each other, so the repetition builds across the room rather than within a single piece.
