This is the resident big band doing what it does best: taking a musical argument about where jazz came from and turning it into two hours of drums, brass and dance rhythm. Adding Pedrito Martinez and Weedie Braimah to a fifteen-piece orchestra changes the whole floor of the sound. If you have only heard the JLCO on record, the physical impact of that band in Rose Theater is the reason to go.
What to expect
A full big band plus guest percussionists on the Rose Theater stage, with a free pre-concert lecture an hour before curtain. The program moves between suites rather than playing any one straight through. Ticket stubs waive the cover at Dizzy's Club after the show.
