Raúl Esparza plays the astronomer on trial for his telescope, in a rock-scored new musical from Danny Strong and Michael Mayer.

Mayer made Spring Awakening out of a nineteenth-century text and a rock band, and this is the same collision aimed at the seventeenth century: a man with a telescope against an institution that cannot afford him to be right. Esparza is one of the few Broadway actors who can play intellectual fury and make it sing. If you want to see a big new musical in previews, before the reviews decide what you think, November is the window.

What to expect

The Shubert is a full-scale Broadway musical house on Shubert Alley, so expect a large orchestra sound and substantial scenic work. No running time has been published ahead of opening. November performances are previews, which means the show can still change between the night you book and the night you sit down.

Good to know

  • The Shubert is at 225 West 44th Street on Shubert Alley, steps from Times Sq-42 St
  • The whole month falls in previews, so staging and songs may still be adjusted
  • The preview schedule is irregular week to week, so check the calendar for the night you want
  • Suitable for older children and up, though the subject is a heresy trial rather than a romp
  • Groups of ten or more book through Broadway Inbound on a separate line
  • No rush or lottery policy was listed for the production when this was written

Going? Keep it.
