There is a person in Greeley Square Park who will teach you to juggle, for free, every weekday afternoon for six months of the year, and hardly anyone takes them up on it. Equipment is provided, no skill is assumed, and the whole thing is over in however long you want it to last. It is the kind of small, unglamorous public program that makes New York's plazas worth using — and you leave with a skill you did not have at lunchtime.
What to expect
The instructor sets up among the plaza's movable tables and chairs with balls, clubs and rings laid out. People stop for a few minutes or stay for the hour. Passersby watch, some join, and the session is fully informal with no start or end ceremony.
