Commodore Barry Park — Brooklyn's first park, wedged between Fort Greene and the Navy Yard — has quietly become a summer venue, from BAM's block parties to Afropunk history. A free four-hour DJ session in its performance space keeps that lineage going with a strictly local, no-cover afternoon of music. If you like your parties in daylight with room to actually dance, this side of Flushing Avenue delivers.

What to expect

DJs on a proper amplified rig from early to late afternoon, a dance-forward local crowd, and park life — ballgames, cookouts — happening all around it. Come through for an hour or settle in.

Good to know

  • The park sits at Flushing and Navy Aves, next to the Navy Yard
  • F at York St or A/C at High St, then a 10-minute walk; the B57 bus stops closer
  • Free and open to all
  • Shade is limited near the performance space — hats help
  • Wegmans and the Navy Yard's food options are across the street for supplies
