There aren't many places to watch a movie from the deck of an aircraft carrier, and the Intrepid gives it away free: Fievel's Wild West adventure on a giant inflatable screen with the Hudson and the Midtown skyline as the backdrop. It's the finale of the museum's America-at-250 summer series. Doors open at 7pm and the film rolls at sunset, so pack a blanket and picnic and claim deck space early — capacity is real and reentry isn't allowed.

What to expect

A picnic-style outdoor screening on the carrier's flight deck, with the film projected on a large inflatable screen once the sun goes down. Families spread out with lawn chairs and blankets; light concessions are available for purchase and the movie plays with open captions.
