Movies Under the Stars is NYC Parks' roving free cinema — a big screen, a neighborhood park, and whoever shows up with a blanket — and this stop lights up Sol Bloom Playground for the Upper West Side. It's moviegoing stripped to its friendliest form: free, outdoors, kids sprawled up front, neighbors chatting until the opening credits hush everyone. As the outdoor-movie season winds down, evenings like this are worth grabbing.

What to expect

Expect an inflatable screen on the playground court, families arriving with folding chairs and snacks through dusk, and the film starting once it's dark. It's casual, local and unhurried — more block party than cinema.
