Free stand-up with no two-drink minimum, on a pier, with actual working New York comics rather than open-mic filler — Riverside Comedy Club is one of the better deals in the city, and Nat Towsen books it like someone who knows the scene. The Hudson does the lighting design. Bring a blanket, sit on the pier, and watch comics work a crowd that did not pay to be there, which is a much harder room and usually a much better show.
What to expect
The show sets up on Pier I, which juts into the Hudson at around 70th Street, with limited benches and most people sitting on the deck or standing. Sets are short and rotate through several comics with the host between. It is rated PG-13, so material skews adult.
